Internet Service Providers Business Challenges

Internet Service Providers have been facing fundamental technological and market evolutions over the past decade:

  • To move from a ‘connected as required’ (based on PSTN incumbent infrastructure and modem connections) to an ‘always-connected’(thanks to drastic decrease and data network bandwidth) infrastructure and service model
  • To increase the unique internet bearer unique services with value-added triple-play bundles (internet, IP TV, Voice over IP) using IP-based technologies

ISPs are going through these changes and are having to deal with a converging telecom and media industry.  They face a number of challenges:

  • To diversify their service portfolio to voice and IPTV services through triple-play bundles whilst increasing the offered internet bandwidth to stay competitive
  • To move away from a silo organization by rationalizing processes, with IT and OSS systems having customer and service centric operations and management
  • To manage  IP-based services and application quality of end-to-end services to ensure the entire value-chain of providers and suppliers is fulfilling its Service Level Agreements
  • To complete the SIP-based evolution towards IMS as a pre-requisite to fixed-mobile-convergence

How MYCOM Addresses these Challenges

MYCOM’s answer to these challenges is to adopt Next Generation OSS (NGOSS) approaches, relying on a Technology Neutral Architecture (TNA) and a standard interfacing framework and allowing various partners in the value-chain to exchange key information. This enables Internet Service Providers to proactively manage their Access, Transport and AAA infrastructure.

Adopting NIMS-PrOptima™ will bring the following benefits to Internet Service Providers:

  • It provides the proactive management of IP-based infrastructure around a single solution allowing identification of  potential performance & Quality of Service issues before they arise
  • It provides a scalable and a distributed SNMP-Mediation architecture thanks to the PrOptiPoller™ product component enabling the management of very large and scattered networks
  • It provides an advanced and scalable file-based mediation allowing the performance management of IT infrastructure and applications
  • It allows for IMS/NGN user and signaling plane (SIP/RTP/H248/SS7) mediation and inspection to monitor real-time voice and video service delivery quality to the customer
  • It enables multiple business processes to take place manually or be automated due to the variety of ease of use and advanced reporting analysis modules e.g. Network planning, Profiling, DSS root-cause analysis module
  • It limits Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) as well as OPEX/CAPEX expenditures that usually increase with the complexity of a network
  • It is future proof and scalable in order to adapt to future business and technology changes towards fixed-mobile convergence
